Of the Lichnee
by Suqlaheru
This writing is intended to help lichnee understand their place in this world, so they may better serve Syrin. It is also to be a bridge of understanding between lichnee and the living. The questions below are commonly asked by new lichnee upon regaining sentience, or questions they should ask and fail to.
Q) Why am I here?
A) You are not a living creature in the sense that Tyrin's creatures are. Instead, you have been given unlife by Syrin. His purpose in doing this differs from lich to lich. Some of you already know intuitively why you were created, while others must discover this purpose. Many will never completely understand Syrin's Will. Do not worry, for we all have a place in His Plan.
Q) Why were lichnee created?
A) When the world was young, Syrin played with the children of Moran and Yana, giving them gifts through His powers. At the time, these children were as much Syrin's as Tyrin's. Over the years, however, Tyrin's proponents have turned the hearts of Moran's Children against their Uncle. He is now almost universally reviled.
Lichnee were brought into being to spread understanding of Syrin. Taking your place in Syrin's Church shows your commitment to doing this.
Q) If I am an extension of Syrin's will, why do I have free will?
A) Just as Syrin's physical image is a reflection of His brother's, so are His creations. They have Life, we have Unlife. But like the image in the mirror, we are also similar to them. Our bodies are shaped alike. We speak the same languages, pursue the same professions. What sort of Master would reduce his subjects to mindless slaves? Syrin is not such a Master, just as Tyrin is not. They are reflections of each other, not opposites.
Q) What is the Church of Syrin?
A) The Church is an organization all lichnee must join. Its purpose is to spread the Word of Syrin, to protect the faithful in time of need, and to ensure the welfare of all Syrin's Children. We are not violent unless forced to it. Our main reason for being is to spread Syrin's Word and the understanding of it.
The Church is made up of two arms: the priestly and the military. Priests (not necessarily all Clerics) preach the Word of Syrin, and are led in their quest by the High Priest. Those of the Military branch, led by Syrin's Champion, defend the Faithful and punish members of the Church guilty of heresy. Syrin shall appoint a High Priest and Champion as necessary.
