The drow
The tale of the Sundering of the elves speaks of a time when elves held dominance over many of the lands and over many of the races. It is said that the argument arose over the treatment of the lesser races. Some wished to harness their strength, using them as slaves, others perceived themselves a benign protector over those who were obviously inferior and in need of such protection. While neither philosophy was favourable to the other races of humanity, when war erupted, the masses sided with the ‘Light Elves’. The ‘Dark Elves’ were driven below ground. Today the drow have formed a rich if ominous society in the deep caverns of the earth where their dark features and keen eye sight have served them well. They are a harsh people, primarily matriarchal, who still subscribe to their philosophy of dominance where the strong rule and the weak are slaves. Most drow seen on the surface world now are exiles and expatriates.
