The kine
The kine are the people once known as ‘human’ before the vampiric word became more popular. Given that they appear to have no special talents or attributes, some legends hold that Moran, Yana, and Kiyanne were kine. Others strongly disagree, claiming those three progenitors to be of an ancient ‘First’ race. If this is so, one wonders what, then, was the gift Syrin placed upon the kine race? It is certainly true that, while kine excel in no particular area, they are far more versatile than any other race and considerably more prolific. The fact that the term ‘kine’ has become popular is an intriguing mystery given that the word means ‘cattle’ in the tongue of the vampire. It could be that it was adopted by the other races of Rhia, perhaps out of racial superiority or perhaps so that the term ‘human’ might be used more broadly, to encompass all beings of intellect. Regardless, the kine have shown amazing resilience to the tragedies of history and endure with a strength not of brawn nor of mind, but of persistence.
