The lichnee

To call the lichnee a race may be misleading, for they do not reproduce themselves. One is not born a lichnee, but becomes one. A lich may have been born into any race and, by various means, been granted the dead kiss of Syrin that transforms him into this ‘race’. The lichnee are not undead as the vampires but truly dead themselves. The lichnee cross over from the world of the dead to serve Syrin exclusively in the realm of the living. Their entire existence is bound in servitude and those who stray are punished most severely. How the lich is created varies from place to place, some methods resulting in hideously deteriorating corpses, others in a more perfect state of preservation, and some yet as mere skeletons. The mechanics of such a transformation are best left to the study of the Church, an organization to which all lichnee must belong.
