The merfolk

The merfolk are closely related to the kine. Some would say they were once kine who grew in their affection for the sea, adapting to their world. Others with a more traditional religious bent generally believe that the first kine child and the first merfolk child were twins, only slightly changed by Syrin. Merfolk are physically distinct from humans in their colouring, with bluish or greenish casts to their skin and silver hair. Other differences such as webbing and gills are not immediately noticeable. Legends of mermaids and mermen have tied the merfolk closely to werecreatures. A merfolk who is spiritually or physically deprived of the sea often suffers from insanity.
