The werekin

Who and what the werekin are is often misunderstood. It is known that individuals of all races may be touched by the gift that will turn them into a werebeast. The werekin are a race separated by culture rather than any physical characteristic. Generally human in appearance, the werekin are the descendants of Marlena who have retained a close cultural tie to the werebeasts. They are not the sole possessors of the gift, but the guardians of it. They are a close-knit society dedicated to the lore of the werebeasts and the protection of their existence. It is the rare werekin who does not subscribe to these beliefs. Many werekin are nomadic not out of desire, but necessity. Other races, fearing the werebeasts persecute the werekin, not understanding that the ‘taint’ may very well lie in themselves as well. History and tradition are both rich and essential to the werekin but in many regards remain a mystery to the rest of the people of Rhia.
