The staff

An 'Immortal' (often simply 'imm') refers to a member of the staff of Dark Risings. Here, anyone level 51 or higher is an Immortal though levels 51 through 56 are mostly unused. Know an Immortal by their often unusual "pretitle" in the who list. Instead of having the common [BR Drow Ran] Anzark the wise listing, the part before their name will be something other than level, race, class.

The Immortal staff is organized as follows:

Level 57: New immortal, in training.
Level 58: Guild immortal, most common immortal level.
Level 59: Administrator or Admin
Level 60: Implementor

If you have a problem with an Immortal, take it to an Admin. If you have a problem with an Admin, take it to an Implementor.

Please try to be patient and understanding when talking to an immortal. YES it's their job to help run the game. NO they don't get paid and rarely get anything but complaints. Be the exception to the rule and say things like 'please' and 'thank you' and you'll get much further with whatever it is you need.

An absolute rule of immortal behavior is that no immortal can aid or assist any player without explicit permission from the higher ranks. In other words, please don't ask an immortal to help you kill a mob,
gather EQ, etc, or you'll likely be either politely or rudely refused.

Do not ASK an immortal to MAKE you an immortal. If you are an experienced mud immortal, or have played Dark Risings for a while, and are interested in becoming an immortal, leave a note to IMP with your qualifications including mortals played at Dark Risings, time spent as an immortal elsewhere, total time mudding, etc. If we're hiring and you suit the position, we'll get in touch with you.

The duties of immortals, and even the very reasons for their existence, are topics of continual and heated debate in various MUD forums, and are fraught with misconceptions, poor examples, and outrageous hypocrisies. :) So here are the people behind the scenes of Dark Risings...
