The rules of the game
These are the rules of Dark Risings. For all matters, covered here or not, use common sense. In case of disputes, the interpretation and ruling of the administrative staff is final and binding.
1. Limited player stealing or player killing. You must have a valid in-role reason for attacking the victim. Attacking someone because you want their equipment, for fun, or because your role is to be a murderer or madman is not allowed. These are only examples. When in doubt, if you haven't had an RP conflict with them, do not attack them. Roleplaying IS required to PK here. After a suspect PK, you may be questioned by an immortal as to your in-role reason for the PK. -- If you have been attacked without any apparent in-role
reason, wait 24 hours before reporting it via note to IMM. During this time, make every effort to uncover the possible in-role reason for the attack. Talk to the attacker, his friends, family, guild, etc. Include the details of your investigation (who you asked, what you asked, etc.) in the note to IMM. We will ask the attacker for the reason and, if it is found to be valid, you will be informed only of its validity. (SEE HELP PSTEAL) (SEE HELP HEVIGE NACHT)
2. Once you've logged on, wait 3 minutes before engaging in battle with another character in any way or stealing from another character. The game will time you. The game's clock is the only valid one. (SEE HELP LATELOG)
3. No multi-killing. Once a character is KO'd, they should not be KO'd again until they have reached sanctuary and are out of fight lag. They also cannot be KO'd after coming back for the items on their corpse if they have been murdered. This rule does not apply if they enter the combat again after being KO'd. See 'help etiquette' for some finer points on this subject.
4. Do not attack someone with the [+] flag. If someone is provoking you or abusing their flag, tell an immortal, do not just attack them. Whether their provocation was "extreme" or not is left to the discretion
of the IMM. Err on the side of patience and tolerance for your own safety.
5. Running a "client loop" is not allowed in saferooms. Beware of ignoring Nobility when practicing. That seems to be a pet peeve of theirs.
6. No multiple logins or multi-playing is allowed on Dark Risings. This also means that character crossing is not allowed. Do not assist or avenge your own characters with other characters in any way. Do not "char cross".
7. No character sharing. Do not let others use or control your characters. Protect your password. If others use your characters without your permission, YOU, as a player, will be held responsible for your character's actions and the character that was used is subject to denial. Do not give or sell your characters to other players. Such characters are subject to denial.
8. Do not reveal the alternate characters of other players. Do not publicly discuss alternate characters of other players. Do not discuss or even hint at, in any capacity or forum, the fact that a character may have an alternate IMM character. The only exception to this rule is the rare occasion that an IMP or Admin asks you to reveal a character's alternate characters. Flirting with the edges of this rule can result in instant denial and ban.
9. Extreme or long-term harassment, better known as "griefing", is not allowed (SEE HELP GRIEFING). If someone is harassing you in this manner, ask them to stop. If they do not stop, report it to an immortal.
10. Don't exploit game bugs or non-offensive mud client triggers.
11. Do not initiate a PK while in possession of less than 10 items of your level or higher. This includes attacking, stealing, or assisting in PK.
12. Guild equipment held by inactive characters will be confiscated by IMP.
13. If the staff decides that you or your character is more of a negative than a positive for the MUD as a whole, you may be denied or banned.
14. Most importantly, do not be an ass to our staff. (SEE HELP RESPECT)
Changes to these rules are at the discretion of the IMPs, and may occur without warning, notice, apology, or evidence of sanity.
