Getting started
The first thing you should do is go through the help files thoroughly. First, check out HELP NEW thoroughly. If you have any questions about any of the help files, please ask on the NB channel by typing "nb ". Move around using directions like, N to go north. Typing "say " displays what you typed to whoever is the room, "who" shows who is online. "Tell " sends a private message to someone.
Turn color on (if you have a color terminal) by typing 'color'. If you don't like the default colors, you can change them. See 'help color'. Then type 'autoexit'. You will then see all available exits from each room you enter. Then type 'autoloot' and 'autosac'. This will make your character automatically 'get all' from the corpse of anything you kill and then sacrifice it, which will give you some money. Finally, type 'wimpy 10'. This will make you flee automatically at 10 hitpoints. You may want to raise this number as you gain levels.
Next, it's time to write your description. It should be at least 4-5 lines long and its focus should be on your physical appearance. Avoid the typical "I'm very sweet and kind and cute like a bunny, so attacking me would be bad" and the typical "I am mean and big and huge and have a huge mean big sword and I can kill you just by looking at you so attacking me would be bad" descriptions as they just make you look silly. "Help description" shows you how to do this. People see your description when they look at you. Once your description is done, ask on NB channel to be approved. You can't level past 11 unless you're approved.
Also if you see a member of [Dawning] around, ask for a "kit". A kit contains a Scroll of Training Equipment that tells you where to find equipment to help get you started and to "raise your stats" (wisdom, intelligence, constitution) so that each time you level you get as much mana, hitpoints, and practices as possible. See HELP ATTRIBUTES. If no Dawning are around, ask for one on NB channel. A Dawning kit will generally contain more perks for your character though that one you'll get from an IMM via NB channel.
Examine the map that is in your inventory by typing 'look map'. If you haven't moved since logging on, you're one up from the Temple of the Gods at the Entrance to Mud School.
Once you have read the help files and examined your map, you're ready to start kicking some butt! Go UP from "recall" (Temple of the Gods) and enter the MUD school. Explore to the north and be SURE to read all of the signs you see by typing 'look sign'. Eventually, you will find the cage room. Try your hand at combat by killing the monsters to your north, south, east and west. If autoloot is on, you will "get all" from each monster you kill automatically. This equipment will raise your attributes when worn.
Once you've gotten the hang of it, you may find that the mud school doesn't provide nearly as many things to kill as you may want. Or, they may not give you as much experience after you've leveled. If so, go up from your classmaster again, but instead of going north this time, 'open door' and go south into the arena. The arena is usually stocked with things to kill. If not, wait 2 minutes, and it will refill itself.
Once you have reached level 6, you will no longer be allowed into the mud school, so you'll have to find other areas to wreak carnage. Try Three Firs, Elemental Canyon, and Dark Mage Chambers to start. Ask on NB channel for other good areas and how to get there. If you're not sure that you're strong enough to kill something, 'consider' it. To 'consider' a 'monster', for example, you would type 'consider monster'. One last tip, when consider shells out "Death will thank you for your gift," it's talking about the gift of YOUR life. Don't attack it. And don't attack anything in front of Meshra! She dislikes violence and will kill you. Speaking of which, see 'help death' for what to do if you die. It'll happen, don't let it upset you too much.
That's it! You're all ready to go.
